I chose the Florida Standard SC.912.TI.1.6. This standard applies towards 9-12th grade levels to be able to explain the personal impacts that technology has on our daily lives. An example of a technology that impacts our daily lives is smart watches. I, for example, have an Apple Watch, which tracks my health and also sends me notifications. This helps me see my progress at the gym, but I also tend to get distracted by the notifications on my watch, pulling me away from class, a conversation, or my focus from my outside surroundings. I do not feel prepared to implement this standard based on my current skill set because if my own technology can negatively impact my own life, how should I hold my students equally as responsible? However, I think that with having my personal experience it would allow for me to easily relate to my students about the impacts that technology has on their lives.
When looking at the resources, I chose to be a 4th grade Dance educator. I found the Florida Standard DA.3.S.1.3. This standard aims to help students explore positive and negative space to increase kinesthetic awareness. Attached to such standard is a lesson plan, which seemed in-depth and very detailed by including a time frame, vocabulary words, and a variety of instruction component types. I would use this lesson plan specifically as a starting point to create my own spin on instruction, while also relating back to the standard. I would also look into other Dance related standards to see if I can incorporate a broader overview of understanding for my students.
It is important to be a proficient Internet searcher as a teacher, because it is imperative that when utilizing any type of resource for your classroom, it comes from a reliable source. Being able to Google an ice cream sandwich recipe is one thing, but not understanding how to search for a helpful AND reliable resource for your benefit as a teacher is not good. For example, if you are in need of a list of standards for your state, grade level, and subject, ChatGPT is not the best place to go, as there are resources like CPALMS that is reliable and easy to navigate to get the best information possible. Moving forward, I would definitely use CPALMS to check on my required standards and any additional resources that could benefit my classroom's learning. I personally use Google Scholar and/or JSTOR to find any reliable/scholarly sources when researching any specific topic, which I believe could be helpful for teachers to see what is happening in their field!
