When visiting the Tech Sandbox last week, I was amazed by all the technological offerings present in such a small space. I particularly enjoyed the 3D printing pens, as that was fun to doodle with. If I were to envision myself using any of the tools in my future classroom, I would see myself using the SMART boards. I grew up with my teachers using them throughout my lower-class years, and I found it to be a very efficient and interactive way to teach classroom material. I think I would implement it by creating stations for my students to write the main ideas learned in the units and/or a way for me to create an "enter ticket" for my students.
The first social media platform I ever downloaded was TikTok during the pandemic. This platform I mainly used for entertainment to keep me busy during my downtime. I then downloaded Instagram and Pinterest in my freshman year of high school. I used Instagram to post major events, but also connect with my friends and other major companies (Nike, Converse, Starbucks, Florida Panthers, etc.) that sparked my interest. I used Pinterest to help me visualize my aesthetic (nail art, phone wallpaper, dorm decor, FSU bed party merch, etc.) that I was searching for. Until this class, I had never used any of these platforms to create a community involving teachers/educational inspiration. However, I do find it helpful to follow accounts for LSAT prep or tips and tricks on law school, where I can learn from multiple perspectives about my intended field of study.
Growing up, I went to a digitally rich school. As mentioned before, every classroom from K-12th grade had a version of a SMART board, where students could write on as well as learn from. Also, from my K-8th grade years, I was provided an in-school computer and iPad to use for classroom activities, instructions, homework, and tests. We were also given a technology elective every year where we would work on desktops. When going into high school, I was fortunate enough to have my own electronic devices to have 24/7 to take notes, do homework, and/or complete tests on. I think that my K-12 technology experience has positively affected my college technology preparation because it allowed me to become more comfortable with certain technology platforms like Canvas, Google, and Microsoft. My earlier experiences supported me by exposing me to different technological systems, making me adaptable to whatever platform is required of me. I think that schools should offer to students the opportunity to earn their Microsoft Proficiency Certificate to really understand all the different softwares, to prepare them for college and/or their future employment.
